Spoon Care

My spoons are made for daily use in cooking and serving. Below is a list of simple things that will ensure generations of reliable services from your new handmade utensils.

  • As the new owner of a hand made spoon the only thing you really need to do to care for it is wash with warm water immediately after use and let it air dry
  • After first use the wood will burr up and become rough.
  • Over time and daily use the wood will smooth out and patina on its own
  • Always hand wash, use mild soap with a scrub pad if necessary, but do not soak in water or wash in a dishwasher. This could cause the wood to crack
  • The wood will season its self over time from food oils if it is not cleaned with soap (just like a cast-iron skillet). if you want to season with oil use a Mineral oil (also sold as butcher block oil) coconut oil, or walnut oil.
  • Avoid using olive or vegetable oils which may go bad. Contact with these oils in cooking or serving is fine just avoid oversaturating them with oils that may go rancid over time.
