Artists Statement

My work is about formal issues: surface, along with clearly defined elements of line, color and shape. The significance of the work lies in the story behind the images. Their inspiration is based on the experience of living in the modern age and my own unlimited formal invention. By striving to create work that is imaginative, impulsive, and slightly odd, my art is informed by the shapes and colors used in popular consumer culture and technology. I then transform these elements into robit heads, and polka-stripes just to name a few. These characters are then placed in different situations on a picture plane or sculpted and given the chance to interact with each other as well as the viewer. The resulting images and forms become strange objects that are not exactly unfamiliar yet their function remains unknown. What is of interest to me is when pop culture combines with technology to create a sexy product that has appeal going beyond its function. Its design becomes a cool gadget, a status symbol, or even a product so unique that it becomes an extension of one's personality.
